Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist to join our team. The AT Specialist will play a pivotal role in providing specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students across various school districts. This position offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and development with a highly flexible schedule and autonomy to work independently.

Job Details:

  • Location: Statewide services with primary needs in Marion County and Alachua County.
  • Payment Structure: Compensation includes direct time, indirect time, and travel time. Work from designated offices or remotely from home for administrative tasks and lesson preparation.
  • Work Hours: Typical daily commitment includes school visits, administrative duties, and travel, totaling approximately 8-9 hours.

Interview Process:

  • Screening Call: 10-15 minutes with a FLVBS Recruiter.
  • Virtual Interview: 20-30 minutes with FLVBS Management Team.
  • Offer: Typically extended within 24 hours post-interview.

Responsibilities:

  • Travel to different school districts to provide assistive technology services to visually impaired students.
  • Collaborate actively in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to develop and implement effective educational plans alongside educators, parents, and professionals.
  • Conduct comprehensive Assistive Technology Assessments (ATAs) to evaluate students' technological needs and formulate appropriate strategies.
  • Provide direct instruction in utilizing assistive technology tools and software tailored to individual student needs.
  • Partner closely with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure effective implementation of accommodations and modifications supporting students' access to the curriculum.
  • Maintain meticulous records of student progress and maintain regular communication with stakeholders, including parents and school personnel.
  • Stay informed about best practices, research, and advancements in assistive technology to enhance instructional approaches.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Assistive Technology, Special Education, or related field.

  • Profound understanding of special education laws and regulations, particularly related to students with visual impairments.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with assistive technology and visually impaired students in educational settings.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to customize instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with visual impairments.
